MUNICH—It’s taken Audi longer than its competitors, but with the launch of the 2027 Q9 this evening, the company has joined them in offering a full-size SUV. No, not the Q7, not even the third version of the car cover broken in June. The car was designed for the first time in Europe, with a third row of seats that are ideal for small children or occasional use. But in America, there is one big segment, made by the Cadillac Escalade, and that’s where we find the new Audi. With no firm plans to replace the A8 sedan yet, the Q9 SUV will be a new flagship for the brand.
The length of 209 inches (5,309 mm), 79.2 inches (2,012 mm) width, and 71.4 inches (1,814 mm), is no less, even if parked next to the aforementioned Caddy, you will find that the American SUV exceeds this one by a few inches here. The 123.5-inch wheelbase (3,137 mm) is 5.6 inches (142 mm) longer than the Q7’s, which means more space in the third row.
The Silhouette is like a station wagon, but scaled up by 1.3x.

The Q9 looked big in the studio, but it was smaller than the Mercedes-Benz GLS or the BMW X7. The body panels have more curves and more visible creases than Audis of a few years ago. And there’s a sense of just getting in, but mostly because its big wheels make it look small and close instead of big and far away (aka, the Father Dougal point.)
