The conflict is raging around the Catalans’ fullback.
A silent transfer game is going on in the corridors of the Spanish national team. There are no official offers on the table and no announced talks, but the reports are coming in and at the heart of this move is Chelsea’s Catalans full-back Marc Cucurella, a common target for Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
The Spanish magazine “Sport” quoted sources close to the camp that “Atletico Madrid” turned its interest in Cucurella into a direct movement within the national team. The La Masia graduate, who has not been given a real first-team chance at Barcelona, has a strong relationship with the Roi Blancos players under Alex Baena, and there has been a spate of side chats between them over the past few days.
The newspaper noted that this step did not remain a secret. At the press conference, the young defender of “Atletico” Mark Popel said jokingly, but with a clear meaning. “I asked Cucurella to join me at Atletico.” A statement that confirms that the Madrid club is not waiting for the market to open, but rather has started the “recruitment” process from within.
Atletico are at the top of their list of reinforcements at left-back this summer and see him as an ideal choice for Diego Simeone’s system, with the club willing to make a move in the region of £48million, even though the player’s contract at Chelsea runs until 2028.

“Simeone’s obsession” attracts “Real” and puts pressure on “Liverpool”.
On the other hand, “Barcelona” continues to be a strong image. Cukurela himself made no secret of his desire to return and said in a controversial interview in England: “I have to think about my family. If the offer from “Barcelona” comes, it will be difficult to refuse.” A statement that has returned his name to the front lines of the Catalan press, who see it as a solution to the left-back dilemma.
