At least 11 people have been killed in a Russian attack on Ukraine, while a Ukrainian offensive in Russia’s Kirov region killed six others, officials from both sides of the conflict said.

A Russian missile attack killed six people and wounded “several” in the Kyiv suburbs on Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

“Rescue operations are currently underway in Kyiv region following Russian missiles…unfortunately, six people have been killed,” Zelenskyy said.

Earlier, Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko reported on the city’s explosions and asked people to stay in shelters because air defense systems were active.

Separately, Vadym Filashkin, the governor of the city of Sloviansk, said five people were killed and nine others injured after Moscow dropped two aerial bombs on the city.

“The Russians are attacking our cities every day – and for the second day in a row, their attacks have caused many casualties in Sloviansk,” Filashkin said. “I’m calling everyone who is still near the front line: get out.”

Reporting from Kyiv, Al Jazeera’s Audrey MacAlpine said: “It’s rare for Russian attacks, especially against football, to happen during the day so this is unusual.”

Meanwhile, south of Mykolaiv, a Russian drone attack on a port facility destroyed two civilian ships, regional governor Heorhii ⁠Reshetilov said on the Telegraph. No one was injured in the attack.

Russia also said it captured the villages of Zakharivka and Ivashchyne in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, and said Russia had shot down 27 ships used by the Ukrainian military last week.

“We are receiving reports from other Telegram channels and authorities that another major attack is likely to occur in the next few days,” MacAlpine said. “These deadly attacks on cities around Ukraine have been increasing over the summer and show no signs of improvement.”

Ukraine’s invasion of Russia

At the same time, in the Kirov region of Russia on Friday, six people were killed and 26 injured in an attack by Ukrainian armed forces on a factory, the regional governor, Alexander Sokolov, said.

A warehouse of Russian e-commerce giant Wildberries has also been affected as Kyiv continues to attack the giant’s warehouses.

Wildberries founder Tatyana Kim said recent attacks targeted warehouses in Saint Petersburg, the region around Leningrad and in Simferopol, Crimea’s largest city.

“We were able to save some of the land and goods. I want to thank our workers, our heroes – a quick evacuation was carried out in all warehouses,” Kim said in a statement.

“According to the initial reports, there are no casualties.

“All of our efforts are now focused on redistributing the stock in our warehouses to ensure the balance of stocks and the financial stability of our partners,” he said.

However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised the protests and said in a social media post that the operation against Russian weapons was “still in progress”, calling the attack a “success”.

As of Friday, Wildberries warehouses had been inspected four times since last week.

According to the Ministry of Defense of Russia, it shot down 571 Ukrainian drones in one night, one of the largest airstrikes sent by Kyiv while increasing the long-term strikes.

The ministry said the attacks targeted more than a dozen Russian regions and the Crimea region.
