Although the X20’s internals are unchanged from last year’s ROG Xbox Ally X, the advanced controls feel like a welcome refresh to Asus’ promising line of mobile gaming PCs. Unfortunately, Asus seems to be positioning the X20 as a low-end hobby rather than a new flagship for mobile gaming.
That’s because today’s announcement of the ROG Xbox Ally X was the announcement of the “All-New ROG Xbox Ally X20”. a bundle“as Asus says (emphasis added). The hardware is currently only available as a special part of the “20th anniversary” bundle that includes the Xreal R1 AR glasses. Attaching the glasses to the X20 hardware via USB gives users what Asus promises is a 171-inch display that can be carried around or fixed on their head.

Even virtual display glasses. they have their fansthey seem more suited to be an optional premium accessory than a standard combination with any device. Asus they are already selling the Xreal R1 glasses for $850and the ROG Xbox Ally X was set back $1,000 last year, before prices for RAM and storage posted prices of console games and other computer hardware to climb.
Although Asus isn’t discussing pricing yet, a price tag approaching or exceeding $2,000 doesn’t seem out of the question when the X20 launches later this year. That price—plus the “Asus’ 20th anniversary” branding on the hardware—would indicate a device with a limited market share and thus limited production.
That would be a shame – the upgrade available in the X20 could find a good audience if it weren’t for the expensive AR glasses. Hopefully, Asus will provide a representative version of the ROG Xbox Ally X20 hardware that will be available after the long 20th edition of the bundle.
