Assistant DOGE Now Manages US Government Information

Greg Hogan, and Affiliates are named Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), will be assistant commissioner of Technology Transformation Services (TTS)section within General Services Administration (GSA). There, he will oversee Login.gov, the government’s secure site and identity services.

Gregory Barbaccia, the federal information director and the director of TTS, wrote in an email to TTS employees that Hogan will focus on user growth for Login.gov, with the ultimate goal of the product “becoming a global platform that is more popular than the federal government.” Until the beginning of this year, TTS was directed by Thomas Shedda former Tesla engineer who TTS under him lost 50 percent of its employees in the first months of 2025.

Hogan joined the government in January 2025 after founding Comma.ai, which specializes in self-driving car technology. He served as the CIO of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) as an assistant to the DOGE buried in the organization and made it one of the places he adopted his government in early 2025. While there, Hogan signed on privacy assessment which allowed the creation of a new email server that DOGE uses for email the entire federal community some of the so-called e-mails of the most famous organization in the government, including the famous ones “Fork in the Road” a message that encourages workers to “quit” and leave the government. Another e-mail asked civil servants to explain what they were doing each week—DOGE later they used AI analyzing the responses. The email server later became the purpose of the case brought by federal employees alleging that OPM violated the law by not publishing a privacy review before rolling out a new server.

On his LinkedIn, Hogan indicates that he will remain VP of Infrastructure at Comma.ai until October 2025, during his entire tenure at OPM. In September, Hogan left OPM to join the National Design Service, which is run by Airbnb cofounder Joe Gebbia, who was also affiliated with DOGE.

“Hogan will focus on expanding agency adoption, improving user experience, and advancing Login.gov as the world’s leading platform while maintaining strong security and privacy,” a GSA spokesperson told WIRED. “This reinforces our commitment to providing safe, secure technology solutions that help the American people.”

Launched in 2017, Login.gov was created as a way for people to have a single, secure account to access support and information across multiple government agencies. It was developed in part by a US Digital Servicewhich is now called the US DOGE Service.

In December 2025, Login.gov released a road map detailing plans to integrate mobile licenses into the service and use passports as a form of identity verification. This sermon repeatedly shows the importance of ministry in the fight against fraud, which has been a the main goal about the Trump administration.

“There is an imperative to create a national identity so that we can store all the information you need to connect with the government: In addition to the standard ID (name, etc.), we will also have financial information, citizenship, information about dependents, etc.,” believes a TTS employee who spoke to WIRED on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals.

“This would be great if it was properly implemented,” said the employee. “It’s a DOGE man in charge…this will look like a warehouse.”

Another TTS employee, who also spoke to WIRED on condition of anonymity, was optimistic, saying that Hogan is “putting a lot of emphasis on listening to the feeds he works for” and that he has “the right long-term mindset.”

Although DOGE in its original form was dissolved in June 2025 with the departure of billionaire Elon Musk from the government, most of its employees are still in the government. powerful positions throughout the government, including the Department of State, the Department of Defense, and the Social Security Administration. Some have moved to the private sector, including to government contractors.
