“We allowed them to put pressure on us.”
The former star of “Manchester United” Wayne Rooney criticized the coach of the English national team, the German Thomas Tuchel, yesterday, Wednesday, after the 2:1 defeat against Argentina in the semi-finals of the World Cup 2026.
Rooney has confirmed that Thomas Tuchel was “asking for trouble” with his defensive changes.
The “Three Lions” were leading Argentina until the 85th minute, but… He collapsed at the end of the game and lost 2-1.
Anthony Gordon managed to break the deadlock in the 55th minute, after which coach Tuchel looked to close the defense against the opposition.
England manager Ezri Konsa came on for Gordon in the 72nd minute before bringing on Dan Byrne and Nico O’Reilly to replace the injured Rhys James and Declan Rice.

Tuchel brought on Ivan Toni and Marcus Rashford in the 96th minute, but the damage was done.
Rooney added: “These fans have spent a lot of money to be here. I expected more from this game. Argentina is the world champion. We knew that would be the difference.”
He added: “The changes we made didn’t work. We are very disappointed. Sometimes you need a little luck to win these tournaments.”
