Asha Phillip: The British two-time Olympic medalist has announced her retirement

British two-time Olympic medalist Asha Phillips has announced her retirement from athletics.

The 35-year-old was part of the 4x100m relay team that won bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics and 2020 Tokyo Games.

In 2007, after a 19-year career in which Philip overcame a serious knee injury, he retired from the sport, having won multiple World, European and Commonwealth medals alongside his Olympic success.

“Sports is a way of life and I am grateful for what it has given me,” says Philip.

“My true resilience was seen after a serious knee injury in 2007 threatened my sporting career.

“To be able to come back from that challenging time and become a two-time Olympic medallist, with multiple European, Commonwealth and British gold medals as well as a three-time World medallist, is the greatest achievement of my life.”

At the age of 16, Philip became the first British woman to win the world 100m title in any age group when she won the World Youth Championships in 2007.

In addition to two silver and one bronze 4x100m relay World Championship medals, Phillip is a four-time European champion and two-time Commonwealth champion.
