The Arsenal board gave their first reaction to technical director Mikel Arteta after the Gunners won the Premier League title for the first time since the 2003-04 season.
Manchester City drew 1-1 with Bournemouth on Tuesday, handing Arsenal the title ahead of their final game of the season against Crystal Palace as the gap between the leaders and the runners-up widened to four points.
As The Guardian reports, “Arsenal” plans to reward Mikel Arteta with a significant salary increase for winning the English Premier League title for the first time in 22 years.
Negotiations on the extension of the contract with the Spanish coach stopped during the title competition. But the contract is certain to be renewed after the Champions League final against PSG on May 30, regardless of the result.

“Arsenal” is trying to make Arteta one of the highest paid coaches in the world. His current contract is worth around £10m a year, with a £5m bonus if the team qualify for the Champions League.
The new deal will put Arteta in the same category as Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, who earns around £26million a year.
With Pep Guardiola expected to step down as Manchester City manager, Arteta, who took over at Arsenal in December 2019, will be the longest-serving manager of a single team in England’s top four divisions and there is no sign of him stepping down any time soon.
