Defender William Saliba will not need surgery for a World Cup injury, his club says.

Arsenal defender William Saliba has been sidelined for a long time after suffering a back injury while playing for France during the match. 2026 FIFA World Cupthe reigning Premier League champions say.
Saliba has been hampered by injuries in all North American games, curtailing his training. He was substituted in the first half of France A 2-0 defeat in the semifinal and Spain and missed 6-4 third place playoff loss in England.
“The specialist following William’s return to London this week has confirmed that he has suffered a back injury which will require time to recover,” Arsenal said on Wednesday.

“Extensive tests have confirmed that surgery is not recommended, but William must now begin a well-managed recovery programme.
“Everyone is focused on helping William to make sure he gets back to health as soon as possible.”
Saliba made 50 appearances in all competitions for the North London club last season for the Gunners he finished waiting for 22 years to win the Premier League title and reach the Champions League final.
Arsenal should start defending their Premier League crown at home against promoted Coventry City on August 21.
