Armoy Road Race: Mike Brown took a four-timer as Richard Cooper won on debut

Initial attempts to run Saturday’s Supersport race were halted by a red flag incident in which the rider involved is understood not to have been seriously injured.

The restart was delayed for a long time due to an oil spill on the track, reducing the race distance from seven laps to five.

Brown ran out a comfortable winner on his BPE by Russell Racing Yamaha, building a healthy lead throughout and enjoying a six-second cushion over race one winner Paul Jordan at the end, with Cooper a further half-second adrift in third.

Cooper set the fastest lap of the race at 96.580mph on his final circuit, which was held in wet conditions.

Derek McGee, Conor Cummins and Sean Buckle rounded out the top six, while Dominic Herbertson at Church Bends was unscathed.

Brown followed this up with a solid success in the Open race on his Honda Fireblade.

On a still damp but slightly dry road, the Cork man trailed his rivals in the seven-lapper, winning by 16.3 seconds from runner-up Cummins, with Herbertson 3.5 seconds behind in the final rostrum position.

Jordan, McGee and David Detzer were across the line, with Brown recording the best lap at 98.131.

The Supertwin race turned into a thrilling three-way battle between Brown, Cooper and Jordan, with four-time British champion Cooper emerging victorious.

The Nottingham rider managed to pull away from the trailing pair in the later stages and by the end of the race Patton-mounted Brown had a second to spare, Jordan third in his Jackson Racing Aprilia, with Herbertson fourth, 0.7 seconds behind the rider in front of him.

Brown dominated the ‘Race of Legends’, held for six laps after the first race stopped after Marcus Simpson slipped unharmed.

The Irish rider won by half a second from Jordan, with Phil Crowe third, followed by Cummins, Herbertson and Michael Sweeney in the top six.

James Doy won the lightweight race after leader Cooper Church came through the bends unscathed, with Chris Meyer taking the honors in the Moto3 class.

Manxman Simpson beat Phil Crowe to win the Classic Superbike.
