Argentina has a long history of football related beliefs and superstitions.
There has been no official explanation for the request to wear the alternate shirt for Wednesday’s game, but some have linked the move to a superstition known in Argentina as “Kabbalah”.
A report published by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) stated that Argentina is known for its great passion for superstitions and rituals, believing that they bring success to the team during World Cup competitions.
The report found that, based on a poll, one in four Argentinians perform rituals to help the national team.
“Watching matches with the same group, sitting on the same bench and wearing the same clothes during the tournament are all methods that some Argentinians resort to in an attempt to get their team’s luck.”
