Apple may take “several months” to meet demand for the Mac mini and Studio

As we wrote last month, the high rate of shipping delays can be blamed on a number of factors. The need for AI on desktops and chip shortages may be factors, but Apple is said to be planning to replace both machines with the Apple M5-series chips later this year, and it’s common for brands see the time of their ships running out when changes are imminent. Cook’s “several months” estimate could include the launch of new models, plus whatever time Apple needs to meet its demands later.

Cook noted that “customer response to MacBook Neo it’s off the charts, with more demand than expected” and that Apple “set a March record for new Mac customers, likely due to Neo.” (Note that “March record” is not the same as “all-time record,” but regardless, it seems demand for the Neo has been healthy.)

But the availability of the MacBook Neo has been much better than the Mac mini or Studio. A Neo ordered directly from Apple usually arrives in two to three weeks, but this time the window hasn’t been the same since early March. The Neo is also widely available for same-day shipping or pickup at other retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy, which is not true of most Mac mini or Studio models.

Despite the limitations, Apple Q2 2026 was successful for the company. Apple made $111.2 billion in revenue, a 17 percent increase over Q2 2025, due to strong growth from sales of the iPhone 17 and its Services division. The Mac also grew 6 percent year-over-year despite declines in the Mac mini, Mac Studio, and MacBook Neo. But Apple is not concerned about the RAM shortage across the industry: Cook said Apple expects “much higher memory costs” in Q3 than it paid in Q2 and that “memory costs will drive our business” going forward.
