Antonio Conte says he will leave Napoli a year after winning Serie A

Manager Antonio Conte has announced he will leave Napoli this summer, 12 months after leading the club to the Serie A title.

The former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur boss took over at Napoli in 2024 and led them to the fourth top-flight title in their history in his first season.

However, Napoli are second this season, 11 points behind champions Inter Milan.

In the Champions League – a competition Conte has struggled to improve – Napoli failed to reach the knockout stages.

After Napoli beat Udinese 1-0 in their last match of the season on Sunday, Conte announced his departure in a joint media conference with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

“It’s an honour, really special for Coach Napoli. It’s been two great seasons, an exceptional experience,” Conte told Italian media.

“It was my decision, I told the chairman a few weeks ago. Napoli will always be at home.”

Asked if he could be the new manager of the Italian national team, Conte said: “My suggestion would be to appoint Pep Guardiola.”

Conte appeared set to leave the club last summer but agreed to stay after talks with De Laurentiis.

Napoli brought in new signings, including Kevin De Bruyne and Rasmus Hjlund, but injuries and inconsistency prevented them from defending the title.
