Christian Prenga has been backed to annoy Anthony Joshua by “doing (Andy) Ruiz” by ditching partner Brandon Moore ahead of their fight in Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
Joshua’s first professional defeat came at the hands of Ruiz in 2019, during a monumental upset at Madison Square Garden that saw Joshua lose his IBF, WBA and WBO titles.
Although Joshua – who is fighting Prenger (20-1-0, 20 KOs) ahead of his highly-anticipated fight against Tyson Fury in the winter – is heavily favored against the Albanian, Moore reckons the British heavyweight could suffer a similar shock defeat in Jeddah.
“(Prenga) looks really, really, really good at brawling right now. It’s going to be a pretty entertaining fight,” Moore told Sky sports.
“I think he has a very good shot to beat him, and I think he’s bigger than Joshua. Joshua just has a muscular body, but Prenga is a big man.
“It’s going to be a tough fight, but I think he (Joshua) can catch Andy Ruiz.
“This is AJ’s first fight. AJ has a lot going on in his life – nothing but respect to AJ, but when you get back in the ring, you haven’t fought in a while, that ring rust is real.
“It’s not a small thing – everyone is watching.”
Moore, who is hopeful of his own high-profile fight against a British heavyweight, emphasized the value of Preng’s fight against Joshua, which is undoubtedly the biggest of his career to date.
“I told (Prenga) he has the opportunity of a lifetime. He has the opportunity that I want.
“AJ is a great fighter, and he’s done amazing things in the sport of boxing.
“But (Prenger) has the opportunity to, you know, be named after people who have beaten future Hall of Famers.
“Everything has to line up. He has to do everything perfectly.”
