Barcelona have signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle.

He was presented to reporters on Friday night after signing a five-year contract.
“Whenever I knew Barca was a serious option, there was no question. I always wanted Barca. Barca is the biggest club on the planet,” said Gordon.
“It’s something I’ve dreamed about as a kid. It’s really a dream come true to be here.”
“I know it comes with a lot of responsibility, but I am ready for such a challenge.
“I know players from the past who have worn the shirt… it carries a lot of weight, but I’m excited for the challenge.”
He added: “Playing with Lamin (Yamal) and the rest of the players is very exciting for me.
“I think the more quality players around you, the better you get.
“These players are at the very top level for a reason. They are the best players in the world.
“They have a lot of quality; when we (Newcastle) played them at St James’ Park, we couldn’t touch the ball.”
Gordon also answered several questions in Spanish – and explained why he is able to speak the language.
“I wanted to speak Spanish because, as a child, I believed I would play for Barca, believe it or not,” he said.
“I have a physio at Newcastle and we spoke every day and I told him that one day I would play for Barca, so I wanted to learn Spanish.”

Gordon, who finished as Newcastle’s top scorer this season with 17 goals, signed a long-term contract extension at St James’ Park in October 2024 with four years remaining on that deal.
But the former Everton winger has been an unused sub for Newcastle’s last four games, as the club look to protect him ahead of an expected summer move.
Newcastle chief executive David Hopkinson told reporters earlier this year That club may have to sell to buy big this summer.
Sky Sports News Earlier this month, Bayern Munich were keen to add Gordon to an attacking list that already includes England captain Harry Kane, former Premier League players Michael Ollis and Luis Diaz.
But Barcelona have now sealed the transfer ahead of the World Cup.

‘Gordon’s versatility attracts Barcelona’

“What’s interesting is that the two clubs that were fighting for his signature are from the continent – Barcelona and Bayern Munich – and I think that will have a lot to do with what he does in the Champions League this season.
Only Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane have scored more goals than Gordon’s 10. It’s a great comeback. His numbers in that competition were sensational. His numbers in the Premier League were not that good.
Yes, he scored six runs, making his total 17, which looks good on paper. But clearly his best form this season is reserved for the Champions League.
He can also play several positions. Generally, he played as a left-back in a 4-3-3, but at times he used more, sometimes to devastating effect.
Barcelona have plenty of assets in the likes of Lamine Yamal and Rafinha. Robert Lewandowski is leaving, so that probably provides an opening for him in the middle. That ability to play in several positions is what attracted Barcelona.

He has blistering pace, scores all kinds of goals and has improved a lot as a Newcastle player since arriving from Everton. He’s 25, he’s an England international and I can see him fitting into the lifestyle, the style of football there.
Newcastle fans will be disappointed that they have lost one of their star players, but I think it is easier for Barcelona to lose him than if they lost him to Arsenal, who were interested, and Liverpool, who signed him almost two years ago.

The impending £69.3m signing of Anthony Gordon and the big-money pursuit of Julian Alvarez have raised questions about how Barcelona can afford such spending.
The Spanish giants couldn’t register new signings until the last minute a year ago, but now they seem to have plenty of cash for three key positions: striker, winger and centre-back.
The financial rules on how much clubs can spend in Spain work slightly differently to the UK. This is based on revenue and a squad-cost ratio, but these are set on a fixed basis by La Liga.
The key to Barcelona’s spending power now is a return to the 1:1 rule. Every euro the club saves in transfer fees or wages can be reinvested directly into the squad. This was not the case before, when a fraction of anything saved could be re-spent.
Another important change is that Robert Lewandowski has left the club and so they are now saving around €40m a year in wages, while they currently don’t have to cover Marcus Rashford’s wages next season.
That could change, but Barcelona are looking to sell some players, which would free up more finances. They offered Ferran Torres, for example, unofficially to Atlético as they looked for a solution to sign Alvarez.
But it’s not just the respite from previously allocated funds that’s changed things — it’s also the revenue boost that Spotify’s Camp Nou has grown. The stadium has been renovated and will soon reach a new capacity of 80,000, while the final capacity is expected to exceed 100,000.
That projected future income, as well as sponsorship from Spotify, as well as winning La Liga again, all depend on when Barcelona’s spending budget is set by the league and means they have the money to throw in some exciting players this summer.
