Annoying Google’s marketing is thinking that the founding fathers are embracing AI

“Party program, but make it 1776.” That’s how the new ad for Google Workspace they open it. And things only escalate from there. The film imagines what it would be like if startups turned to Google and Gemini’s collaborative tools to help them develop the Freedom Declaration.

Ben Franklin writes to Thomas Jefferson to see how he writes, who takes a picture and uses AI to write it in a Google Doc. Franklin and Adams jump in to make a change in the mental state, Gemini gets them an appointment, they take notes on the Google Meet phone, and then Nano Banana whips a seal in the United States with a turkey (probably an honest choice, instead of an eagle).

The last thing before the fireworks start, the founding father asks Gemini to give his instructions to give King George III access to the Declaration of Independence. Which should make Americans of all political stripes want to throw their phones out the window. (I wonder what Gemini would have done if the founding fathers had asked about women’s suffrage, slavery, or Manifest Destiny?)

The whole thing is not recommended, cornyhe is just dumb. As a CUNY history professor Angus Johnston said on Bluesky, “Even if it’s a fictional joke, it’s impossible to say that AI is a useful tool for political planning, writing, or social cohesion.”
