Ania Magliano: Review of Peach Fuzz – a body and soul drama from the top star of SNL UK | Funny

AAfter an impressive training in comedy, Ania Magliano’s reputation has now grown as the co-host of SNL UK’s Weekend Update, a mockumentary reminding viewers of my vintage work on The Two Ronnies. Would Messrs Corbett and Barker have had success on television with a stand-up show about learning to love their genitals? They wouldn’t – but times have changed. Magliano’s new take on sustainable living has all the qualities – a great sense of humour; an open and lovable personality; and creativity – to attract new fans to his stage work, which he finds in his success on the small screen.

The 28-year-old’s story is about being apart of his body and his experiences. In Peach Fuzz, he takes a longing look at other cultures, more material than our own. But, living in the UK, are there physical sensations worth feeling? There is one obvious answer – but Magliano is already in treatment for his conflict thatwhat is being reported here is a strange and mysterious British phenomenon involving an Internet sex addict who claims to have experienced 27 orgasms in a row. The next episode finds Magliano encouraged by his mentor to talk to his genitalia through a specially designed mirror – just as Descartes would have said when he first started talking about mental disorder all those years ago.

These are all in a very happy place between thoughtful, meaningful and fun, with a twist in the ideals of Barbie and Sylvanian Families, and in our ideals of the two genders of “household couples”. There are some elite gags, such as the one involving the transformation into having large labia, and the kind of well-directed, satisfying callbacks you only find on the most well-planned and well-planned sets. The closing piece brings this one’s loose ends into a powerhouse tank, where a cheerful Magliano learns a shared lesson about what (and who) the body is made of, and why we should celebrate it. Sometimes the standup job gets tough when TV fame comes calling. Not here: this full-body comedy is disturbing.
