Andy Flower replaces Brendon McCullum as England Test coach

Andy Flower has ruled himself out of the race to replace Brendon McCullough as head coach of England’s Test team.

McCullum was sacked from the red-ball role earlier this month following poor form and a number of controversial off-field incidents, but remains in charge of England’s white-ball set-up.

Flower was England’s head coach from 2009 to 2014 and the team won on three occasions, including their last win away from home in 2010-11 when they suffered a 5-0 loss to Australia.

The Zimbabwean is the head coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore and led them to Indian Premier League titles in 2025 and 2026.

“It’s from the ECB,” Flower said at a media day for London Spirit ahead of this year’s Centenary.

“I have spoken to (managing director of men’s cricket) Rob (Key) at the ECB about this topic. The bottom line for me is that I am very happy with the job I am doing at the moment.

“I work for two really good companies, I have really good teams around me and I’m very comfortable with what I’m doing at the moment.

“I have worked with England before and had a wonderful time. Many years ago I had the opportunity to become England’s head coach and represent England and I remember those years very fondly.

“Being a Test coach is a privilege for me and anyone else. For me at this point, I’m very comfortable with what I’m doing and I’ll continue to do that.”

“I have, yes,” he added when asked if he had made up his mind.
