France’s Al-Ghazal shines brightly after scoring against Iraq
France captain Kylian Mbappe continued to make history at the World Cup after scoring an unprecedented feat against Iraq in the second round of the 2026 group stage.
The France star managed to score twice in the Roosters’ 3-0 win over Iraq to send his country through to the round of 32 and add a new all-time record to his tournament record.

What Mbappe did against Iraq was just the latest link in a long streak of World Cup brilliance, having previously scored a brace against Argentina at the 2018 tournament before returning at the 2022 World Cup to repeat the feat against Denmark and then Poland.

He also returned to play one of the greatest individual performances in finals history when he scored a hat-trick for Argentina in the final.
In the current edition, he opened his goalscoring record with a brace against Senegal before repeating again against Iraq to become the first player to achieve this historic feat.
It should be noted that Mbappe has risen to the second place in the ranking of scorers of the World Cup in history, equaling Germany’s Miroslav Klose with 16 goals each and two goals apart from Argentina’s Lionel Messi (18).
