Growing indications are that Argentine star Paulo Dybala’s career in Europe could be over after 13 years as a professional on the Old Continent.
Press reports close to the ESPN network state that Dybala, who wears the number 21 jersey with Roma, has reached a preliminary agreement with Argentina’s Boca Juniors in preparation to officially join the ranks of the blue and gold giants when his contract with the Italian club expires next June.
If the deal goes through, Dybala’s return to the Argentinian league will be a unique event, as he will wear the shirt of one of South America’s most prestigious clubs for the first time in his professional career, which began at the Institute camp before his move to Europe in 2012.
A difficult season in Rome
The player nicknamed “La Jolla” (the jewel) has been plagued by a series of recurring injuries this season that have kept him out for long periods, which has negatively affected his continuity and participation with the Italian team.
These health conditions, in addition to the end of his contract, opened the door to a new experience outside of continental Europe, which could prove to be a defining turning point in the 31-year-old’s career.
The announcements fuel speculation
Dybala himself added fuel to the fire of speculation in recent days when he hinted at the possibility of a move in a statement that excited Boca Juniors fans.
The Argentine star said: “That would be great, nothing is impossible. I am now playing for Roma and I have to defend this shirt, but nothing is certain.”
These statements, which were open to all possibilities, strengthened the hypothesis of his transfer to the legendary base of Boca Juniors “La Bombonera”.
An exclusive deal is on the horizon
If the deal goes through, it would be one of the biggest surprises of the summer transfer window and would represent a revolution in the career of a player who has spent more than a decade in Europe’s top leagues, where he played for Palermo, Juventus and Roma.
