An emotional message from the hospital…Barcelona goal’s first appearance after surgery

Elie Junior Kroppi sent a reassuring message to his fans just hours after he underwent a delicate operation that will keep him out for months at a sensitive time when Barcelona have eyed him as a potential replacement for Julián Alvarez.

The French youngster (20), who has been linked with a move to the Camp Nou should the Alvarez deal fall through, provided the deal does not exceed Bournemouth’s €100m release clause, has been temporarily ruled out after it was announced he would need surgery on his left foot.

Barcelona had made two bids for Carrubi, according to French newspaper L’Equipe, but these were rejected by the English club, before the matter was further complicated by the announcement on Wednesday that the player would undergo surgery that will keep him out for three to four months.

From the hospital bed, Karubi posted a picture with his parents on social networks and wrote: “Thank you all for your messages. My family and I are very affected… The surgery went well and now I am completely focused on recovery. See you soon.”

It has thus been confirmed that the promising forward will be out until next October or November, missing a significant chunk of the season, which could hamper any potential transfer moves this summer.

Carroubi has been a standout since his move to Bournemouth from Lorient last summer, where he made 35 appearances, scoring 13 goals. He was one of the most prominent contributors to the team finishing sixth in the Premier League and qualifying for the Europa League under Andoni Iraola, before Marco Rose replaced him after the Spanish manager moved to Liverpool.
