In the span of a week, two people were shot by ICE agents in two different states. Protesters are calling for an investigation into their deaths, citing limited footage of the incident and the fact that both men were not the first targets of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. The deaths of Joan Sebastian Guerrero in Maine — a 26-year-old Colombian citizen who was authorized to work in the U.S. — and Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston — a Mexican national who worked in the country for three decades as a construction worker — have sparked protests and calls for ICE to change its practices. Donald Trump defended ICE agents on Truth Social, saying they are ‘doing a great job’ and that they should not change how they treat suspects who drive vehicles. But will these events have any impact on the administration’s immigration policies, especially in November’s midterm elections?
