Amazon’s search engine has created AI-generated products that you can’t buy

Amazon’s updated search engine now I will show you the images created by AI of things as you describe them. Currently, the in-app content is limited to AI images of clothing and home goods, allowing you to capture the image that best matches what you’re looking for and search for similar items.

In a blog post, Amazon lists this feature as a way to help you search for items if you can’t remember the name of a design or style, such as specifying “shirt with a hooded collar” if you can’t think of “cow neck.” This seems like it might be useful for these types, but it doesn’t add much if you’re just looking for something simple, like “blue t-shirt.”

Amazon isn’t using AI to create fake products for some of its “shop and style” features, however. This will show AI-generated collages with the clothes you’re searching for.

If you’re looking for denim shorts, for example, Amazon will display a carousel of clothing items featuring denim shorts. Although the clothes are created by AI, the clothes in them are not, which means you can buy the items in the pictures. This is coming to the Amazon app on Android and iOS.
