After a slower start than its main rivals, Toyota has been developing new electric vehicles for the North American market. Its first attempt, the bZ4x, was also run, but a new battery, more efficient motors, and a NACS port replaced the facelifted bZ. and EV I happily recommend. Then, earlier this year, it followed up with some changes related to bZ. For those who miss the station wagon vibe, it’s there at bZ Woodlandand the all-electric Highlander is approaching showrooms, too. But the focus these days is the C-HR, and I don’t know what to make of it.
It is the smallest of the bunch, 6.7 inches (170 mm) shorter than the bZ. But it’s still wide and less than an inch. So if you’ve been put off by the bZ’s size, and are looking for something smaller—and judging by reader feedback, there are a lot of you out there—this small SUV probably won’t cut it.
It’s not cheaper than the bZ until you consider that the C-HR is available with one powertrain choice: a twin AWD setup with 338 hp (252 kW) powered by a 74.7 kWh battery. The same configuration, with 223 hp (167 kW), 198 lb-ft (268 Nm) in the front and 118 hp (88 kW), 125 lb-ft (169 Nm) in the rear, costs about $3,000 more in the bZ than the $37,000 base price of the CHR.
Is it silly to think of the C-HR as a bZ SWB?

Like the last C-HR, the rear door handles are located in the C-pillar.

No, the C-HR is one of those stupid cars, that puts it bold styling and a sporty personality ahead of simple functions. Besides, bZ already exists if you want stolid.
