Altman vs. Elon on the future of OpenAI

Sam Altman and Elon Musk are facing high-profile trials that could change the future of OpenAI and its popular product, ChatGPT. In 2024, Musk filed a lawsuit is criticizing OpenAI for abandoning its mission of creating AI for the benefit of society and shifting its focus to promoting profit instead.

Musk was the cofounder of OpenAI and says that Altman and cofounder Greg Brockman persuaded him to fund the company, leaving behind their original mission. However, OpenAI says that “this lawsuit has always been baseless and a malicious attempt to disrupt competition” in order to promote Musk’s SpaceX / xAI / X companies that launched Grok as a competitor to ChatGPT.
