Who is he?
The Jordanian Football Association Board of Directors, led by Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein, has decided to appoint Morocco coach Badou Al-Zaki as the first national team coach on a one-year contract to lead the team in upcoming competitions, especially the Asian Cup finals scheduled for Saudi Arabia in early 2027.
The federation announced in an official statement that the decision was made after the Board of Directors in its meeting agreed to accept the resignation of coach Jamal Salami and assistant technical staff, while thanking and appreciating them for their recent efforts.
The announcement stated that a new Nashama coach will be introduced and an assistant technical staff will be announced in line with Zaki’s recommendations, a move aimed at the Moroccan coach selecting his assistants to achieve the desired goals.
Zaki, 63, has had a rich career as a player and coach, having led the Moroccan national team to a historic achievement at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, reaching the round of 16, and was crowned the best African player in the same year. He also stood out in the Spanish team “Real Mallorca”.
At coaching level, Zaki led the Atlas Lions to the final of the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations. He has also overseen the training of a number of prominent clubs in Morocco, most notably Wydad Athletic Club, Fath Rabat, Kawkab Marrakech and Ittihad Tangier, in addition to his experience coaching the national teams of Sudan and Niger.
Al-Zaki’s appointment represents Jordan’s bet on the continental experience and achievements of the Moroccan coach in an effort to guide Al-Nashama to positive results in the upcoming Asian competitions and strengthen the position of the Jordanian national team on the continental stage.
