The Algerian youth lost consciousness after the attack and was taken to the hospital
Algerian circles are in shock after a young Wasim (14 years old) was brutally attacked in the fan zone of the American city of Boston during the 2026 World Cup round 32 match between Morocco and the Netherlands, an incident that went viral on social media.
According to the same media reports, including the newspaper “sunriseAlgiers, the young American of Algerian descent was present in the fan zone wearing an Algeria national team shirt, but he came to support the Moroccan national team during the game, which ended in a 1-1 draw with the Atlas Lions in qualifying.
Reports said the incident unfolded after the Dutch team took the lead as video, which was widely shared, showed the youngster being collectively attacked by around 35 fans who attended the match before he lost consciousness and fell to the ground and was later taken to hospital for treatment.
The incident sparked outrage in Algerian circles, whether through social media platforms or among members of the Algerian community in the United States and Canada, which coincided with the Algerian national team preparing to face Switzerland in the World Cup in Vancouver.
On the other hand, a large number of Algerian and Moroccan fans condemned what the child was subjected to on social networks.
According to “La Gazette du Vinque” newspaper, the American authorities have taken legal measures against those suspected of the attack, and the Algerian consul in New York has also filed an official complaint to pursue the case.
For his part, Algerian President Abdelmajid Teboun confirmed that the Algerian embassy is pursuing the case with American authorities to ensure that all necessary legal measures are taken. “Our embassy is doing everything necessary and following all court procedures with justice and the American authorities.”
