Algeria also defeated Jordan 2-1 and eliminated World Cup starters with a game to spare thanks to second-half goals from substitute Nadhir Benbouali and Amine Gouiri.
Benbouali’s header on Monday stopped Nizar Al-Rashdan’s first-half opener, and Gouiri slotted home on eight minutes to revive Algeria’s campaign after their opening goal. 3-0 to Argentina.

Petkovic brought on Nabil Bentaleb and Benbouali at the break, and Algeria stepped up their game.
Surrounded by Jordanian defenders, Benbouali rose high to meet Mahrez’s corner and sent a header into the corner of the net in the 69th minute.
Thirteen minutes later, Algeria took the lead in another round.
Substitute Anis Hadj Moussa curled in a corner and a deflection off goalscorer Jordan Al-Rashdan allowed a jubilant Gouiri to grab the winner.

For Algeria, this victory sets the stage for the fight against Austria, 44 years after the “Disgrace of Gijon”.
During the 1982 World Cup, Austria and West Germany were said to have played a match to ensure that they both progressed and destroyed Algeria.
West Germany and Austria denied wrongdoing, and FIFA expelled them.
Algeria can get their revenge on Austria when they face them in Kansas City, Missouri on Saturday while Jordan faces Argentina in the Champions League. Lionel Messiwho has scored all five goals in the World Cup so far.
