If Don asks for it, he’ll get it
It seems that the last chapter of Cristiano Ronaldo’s career has already begun to be written. After Portugal’s disappointing exit from the 2026 World Cup and the Don’s forty-first year, all eyes turn to what will happen after his retirement.
English Premier League legend Alan Shearer told Betfair, quoted by the newspaper. The sunBritish. “It’s a difficult decision. We are talking about a giant in the world of football who has broken all kinds of records and I am in awe of his commitment, his style of play and his constant desire to continue.”
He explained. “But it’s hard. As I said before the tournament, I believe that how Martinez deals with Ronaldo, whether starting or replacing him, will determine Portugal’s fate at this World Cup.”
“He only took him out in one game, didn’t he? Ramos came on and scored but he didn’t take him off against Spain when they needed a goal and I thought he should have taken him off, changed the plan and brought on another player. Any other Portuguese striker will also face this problem to replace him if Ronaldo doesn’t retire.”
He continued. “He is now forty-one years old. I don’t rule it out, but I would be surprised if he still plays with the national team two years from now. As you know, I always leave the arena while the fans demand more and it seemed that this tournament was too much for him and Portugal.”
Regarding his coaching future, Shearer confirmed. “I don’t know what his plans are after he retires, but I think if he wants to coach Portugal in the future, it’s only a matter of time before he gets the job.”
