Al-Zalzuli leaves the world championship with a broken heart.. What awaits him in France?

The player is out for a month

Real Betis’ Moroccan international Abdel Samad Zalzouli returns to Spain today, Monday, having been permanently ruled out of the 2026 World Cup due to a torn medial ligament in his right knee suffered in the recent friendly against Norway, ending his participation in the tournament after watching the opening match against Brazil.

According to the official channels of the Real Betis club, the player “will go straight to Elche to visit his family for a few days and from there he will go to France to start the first phase of recovery in a specialized center for knee injuries, according to the player and the medical staff of the Betis club.”

No firm date has been set for Zalzouli’s return to action, although he is expected to be out for just over a month as he could join his side’s pre-season training under coach Pellegrini next July, depending on his recovery from injury.

The injury is a painful blow for the Moroccan, who had hoped to feature with his country’s national team, as he was content to watch the Atlas Lions’ opening game against Brazil from the stands before returning to Spain to begin his recovery, while Betis are betting on his return in time for pre-season.
