The leader stands his ground
Media reports today, Monday, revealed a new development in the future of Portugal full-back Al Hilal’s Joao Cancelo, amid the player’s continued desire to return to Barcelona permanently in the summer transfer window.
Cancelo spent the second half of last season on loan at Barcelona and performed well, prompting the Catalan club to express their desire to keep him, while the player would not mind continuing his career at the Camp Nou.
According to a report by journalist Hamad Al-Suweihi, Al Hilal’s management has asked Cancelo to join the team’s training camp in Austria, which will begin in the middle of next month, and his future will be decided after the training period ends.
Al-Suwayhi noted that the final decision will be in the hands of the technical staff and the new sporting administration led by Richard Hughes, as the player will be assessed before deciding whether to continue or let him leave.

Al Hilal, meanwhile, appear to have put the ball in Barcelona’s court as they are not averse to discussing the player’s departure, but are waiting for the Spanish club to make a formal move, either with a final takeover offer or an all-party agreement.
Cancelo is under contract with Al Hilal until the end of next season, giving the Saudi club an advantage in managing the file, while Barcelona hope to find a suitable financial formula to complete the deal, given the player’s desire to continue his career with the Catalan club.
The picture is expected to become clear after Al Hilal’s camp ends, as the club decide their final stance on one of their most popular foreign players, whether to keep him in the draft for the new season or open the door to a move to Barcelona.
