Press reports revealed the identity of a new person who will soon take over the position of president of Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahly, replacing the former president Khaled Al-Ghamdi.
Earlier, Khaled Al-Ghamdi announced his resignation from the post of Al-Ahli president after spending 3 years in this position. This was officially confirmed by the club managementToday, Wednesday.
He said Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat Al-Ahli Club Company is going to appoint Ahmed Al-Shankiet, the vice-president representing the Public Investment Fund and the chairman of the Executive Committee, who will head the club’s board of directors in the next phase.
Al-Shanketi was chosen in particular in light of the high level of trust he enjoys within the club’s system, after he demonstrated a high level of efficiency in managing multiple files, according to the newspaper’s findings.
Al-Shanketi will be in charge of the Saudi club on an interim basis for the next three months, with the intention of keeping him in his position until the end of next season, if the administrative situation stabilizes and there is no need to make a change before then.
Khaled Al-Ghamdi left Al-Ahli after 3 years in charge from 2023, during which he achieved many achievements, notably winning the AFC Champions League title for the top flight for two consecutive seasons, in addition to the Saudi Arabian Super Cup after a 9-year absence.
Notably, Al-Ghamdi will contest for the position of president of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, replacing Yasser Al-Mashal, who resigned from his position after seven years amid Saudi Arabia’s group stage exit from the 2026 World Cup.
