Brazil goalkeeper Alisson Becker found himself in a tense confrontation with Liverpool fans as he made a surprise admission that could anger them, hours before the samba dancing team’s much-anticipated match against Morocco in the 2026 World Cup opener.
The absence of Alisson Becker at goalkeeper was one of the most unfortunate features of last season for Liverpool. Reds fans have seen more of Giorgi Mamardashvili and Freddie Woodman than they bargained for during Allison’s injury absence. Illness and then a hip injury saw the Brazilian goalkeeper sidelined for several months.
With the World Cup set to begin, Alisson has been set to start as goalkeeper for Brazil, admitting that some of the matches he missed in the spring were to ensure he was fit to compete.
He spoke to the prestigious Brazilian newspaper Estadão, saying: “I am 100% ready (for the World Championship). My absence from the Liverpool games was part of the plan to ensure I was ready for the World Cup.”
He added: “Everyone knows that I had a rest period before the World Cup, but also because it is my great desire to be fully fit for the World Cup. I have said before. What matters is how we get to the World Cup.”

“This will obviously upset the Liverpool fans (against Alisson) because they knew how much the team needed his defensive leadership when the team was collapsing in recent weeks.
He concluded. “It’s also further evidence that Arne Slott can’t rally the players around his ultimate vision. It’s hard to imagine a player under Jurgen Klopp doing that, or even if he did, talking about it publicly to the media.”
still Alisson’s name has been linked with a move to JuventusHowever, it is likely that no major deal will be completed until after the World Cup or Brazil are knocked out of the tournament.
If Alisson leaves for Italy or elsewhere, the question is whether Liverpool’s transfer committee and new manager Andoni Iraola trust Mamardashvili to replace Alisson, or whether they will look elsewhere for a new goalkeeper.
