Real Madrid have renewed their interest in signing the French star in the upcoming transfer window, after the club previously cut short their pursuit of the player, before his name suddenly returned to interest circles.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, Real Madrid’s renewed interest is due to recent developments at Liverpool, where French defender Ibrahima Konate is close to leaving Anfield as contract extension talks falter and the two sides disagree over financial terms and continuity.
The renewal deal between Konate and Liverpool seems to have reached an impasse of late, which has opened the door for major European clubs to monitor his situation, led by Real Madrid, who have been keeping a close watch on the situation without making an official move just yet.
Konate’s name had earlier been heavily mooted in the corridors of the Royals as an option to strengthen the defensive line, before interest temporarily waned.
Real Madrid are looking to strengthen their central defender position with the possibility of signing one or two players in this line in the coming period, making Konate an attractive option, especially if he is available on a free at the end of his contract.
In the same context, the very strong relationship between Konate and his compatriot Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid’s top goalscorer, could play an additional role in facilitating the idea of him moving to Real Madrid, given their close friendship, which could increase the attractiveness of the offer for the defender.
The 27-year-old Konate is one of the most outstanding defenders of Liverpool and the French national team, which makes him an ideal target for Real Madrid.
