In the midst of an ongoing Ebola investigation, Ugandan health officials have discovered that a one-and-a-half-year-old child has died of Marburg virus infection, according to the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But Ugandan health officials seem reluctant to share the story and their feelings.
Marburg virus is associated with Ebola virus disease and causes similar hemorrhagic diseases. The methods of transmission and the methods of prevention are the same.
Wednesday, Africa CDC told Reuters that there was no contact with the dead child who had symptoms, and there were no other cases in the country, citing Ugandan health officials. But when Reuters reached Uganda’s Ministry of Health, a spokesperson said they were not aware of the Marburg outbreak.
