Aberdeen have signed winger Lewis Smith from Livingston

“I have admired Luis for a long time and tried to sign him at the previous club, but I was not in a position to afford him.

“He’s consistently impressed us every time we’ve seen him, but what really stood out was that the numbers backed up exactly what our eyes were telling us.”

Overall, Smith has played 81 times for Livingston, scoring 12 goals, including seven last season, and providing 12 assists.

“Some of the performance data from our recruitment department last season ranked him among the best wide players in the Premiership,” said Robinson.

“We can all sometimes overlook what is right on the doorstep. Lewis has proven over the years that he can perform consistently in this league and we believe there is still more to come from him.

“Dons fans can expect an energetic, attack-minded winger who is deceptively quick, works tirelessly for the team, is comfortable with both feet and carries a genuine goal threat.

“He finished as Livingston’s leading league goalscorer last season despite playing predominantly in wide areas, which tells you a lot about the attacking qualities he will bring.”

An “excited” Smith noted that he made his Hamilton debut at Pittodrie and believes he has “a lot more to offer” for his new club.

Smith, who came through Accies’ youth ranks, signed a two-year deal in 2024 when he moved to West Lothian, but it was extended after one season until the summer of 2027.

Livingston’s sporting director David Martindale said the sale proved their player trading model was working.

“We signed Lewis on a pre-contract while he was with Hamilton in Ligue 1 and it’s a strategy we definitely want to go ahead with,” he told his club’s website.

“We are in a good place at the moment and, subject to governing body endorsement, we will announce Smithy’s replacement very soon. Lewis was identified early on in anticipation of the move.”

Smith’s arrival at Pittodrie came on the same day Aberdeen striker Marko Lazetic was sold to Armenian Premier League runners-up Noah for an undisclosed fee.
