Nearly a month after launch, the first commercial satellite of its kind built to rescue NASA’s Swift gamma-ray observatory from a burning orbit is facing its own challenges, the agency announced Tuesday.
The Link satellite made by Katalyst Space Technologies “experienced a problem with attitude control” over the weekend, NASA said, causing the spacecraft to spin and causing slow communication.
“Preliminary research indicates that two-thirds of Link’s wheels are inoperable, and there is a reduction in the efficiency of its gas cooling system,” NASA said.
