A taxi driver who fled the Southport attack has had his license revoked

A taxi driver who fled the scene of a Southport stabbing and waited 50 minutes before calling 999 has had his license revoked.

Gary Poland lured murderer Axel Rudakubana to Heartspace Dance Studio on July 29, 2024, when the 17-year-old walked into a Taylor Swift-themed dance workshop and started hitting random kids.

Dashboard camera footage, played to a public inquiry into the attack, described how Poland had kicked out as screaming children streamed out of the building “in the chaos of their lives”.

Sefton Council confirmed the taxi license had been revoked because it “did not meet the appropriate standards”.

Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine; Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Bebe King, six, were killed, while eight other children and two adults were seriously injured.

Last year, the Southport Inquiry at Liverpool City Hall heard how Rudakubana got out of a Polish taxi without paying for a lift near their home in Banks, West Lancashire.

Poland follows the teenager and yells that she has to pay, but Rudakubana ignores her as he steps up the stairs to the dance studio.
