A super alternative… Ondaf equaled the African legend’s World Cup record

The German German star breaks the copy number of Germany’s latest title icon

Denise Undav continued her brilliance as the winning card for Germany at the 2026 World Cup, after equaling an all-time record that had stood for 36 years.

The Stuttgart star rescued coach Julian Nagelsmann’s side on Saturday when he scored the equalizer eight minutes after coming on as a substitute for Jamal Musiala, then grabbed the German machine’s 2-1 victory in the 94th minute.

According to statistics published by the platform Squawka, Ondaf has increased his tally as a substitute to five goals in the current World Cup, equaling Cameroonian legend Roger Milla, who achieved the same number in 1990.

The pair, Ondav and Mila, surpass Germany’s Andre Schurrle, who scored four substitute goals during the 2014 World Cup, which Germany won.

Opta, on the other hand, said “Undav became the first player since Miroslav Klose in 2002 to score in his first two World Cup games.”

With this hard-fought win, the German team progressed to the Round of 32, where they top Group E with 6 points, after beating Curaçao 7-1 in their opening match, including 3 UNDF contributions; he scored one goal and made two assists.

It is expected that the German national team will finish the group stage next Thursday by meeting with Ecuador.
