The Resident Evil the film has grossed more than $1.2 billion worldwide since the film was first released in 2002, but an attempt to relaunch it a few years ago fizzled. Sony Pictures is trying again, this time tapping Zach Cregger—who wrote, produced, and directed last year’s Oscar-winning hit. Weapons– for the project. The studio showed the first teaser of Cregger’s Resident Evil at CinemaCon and just releasing it to the public.

He wanted to be close to Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 game – even using the fixed corners of the Spencer Mansion in the first game. Alas, Welcome to Raccoon City was a disappointment and had a disappointing box office, grossing only $42 million worldwide against its $25 million budget. The studio changed its plans for a direct sequel, and the 2022 Netflix series was also canceled after a limited first season.
