Tests shocked samba dancers
The Brazilian team suffered a painful blow due to injuries that may affect the remaining matches of the 2026 World Cup.
The samba dancers advanced to the round of 16 after a tough game against Japan in the round of 32 and are now four wins away from regaining glory.
But they will likely have to do without midfielder Lucas Paqueta after the former West Ham star picked up a muscle injury in Monday’s 2-1 win over Japan.
28-year-old Paketa felt the problem in the back of his left thigh and had to leave the field in the first half and was replaced by Endrik.
“Paketa underwent a test on Tuesday which confirmed the presence of a muscle injury in the back of his left thigh. The player will undergo an intensive treatment program under the supervision of the national team’s medical staff in order to recover and return to the game as quickly as possible.”
The announcement did not specify any date for Paquita’s return, but was quoted in return Mirror newspaper According to the Brazilian ESPN network, the player is “virtually out of the tournament” and will not be available for the rest of the World Cup matches.
Brazil will face Norway in the Round of 16 on Sunday in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the same stadium where the World Cup final will be held on July 19.
