Trouble for De Lafuente
Spain have suffered a painful blow after winger Jeremy Beno suffered a possible fracture of his left vertebra in the closing minutes of their 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage match against Uruguay, an injury that could rule him out for the rest of the tournament.
Coach Luis de la Fuente told DAZN after the game that the young player showed great courage despite the pain.
He added at the press conference. “He has an injury that can keep him out of the World Championship, we’ll see.”
The injury occurred in the last moments of the match, when Beno fell to the ground due to severe pain, clutching his left shoulder. He lay on the grass for a few minutes before getting up, refusing to leave the field so as not to leave his team with 10 players.
He swapped positions with Ferran Torres and moved up front despite his obvious pain in a display that impressed fans and technical staff alike.
De La Fuente revealed that Neco Williams was suffering from “muscular discomfort” which could be a result of stress or fatigue, explaining that the player was gradually getting back into shape in preparation for the knockout rounds before suffering a bit of a setback at the end of the group stage, adding;
Pino is expected to undergo a medical on the morning of Sunday, June 28, to determine the nature of the injury and the length of his absence amid fears that his World Cup career could be over early, as Spain prepare to play their first match in the round of 32 of the tournament.
