A reflective pool line is cut with a sharp knife or razor, says the National Park Service

Earlier this month, a line at the bottom of a reflecting pool in Washington, D.C., was cut with a sharp knife or blade, a National Park Service official said.

Frank Landes, deputy director of the park service, said in a court filing Thursday that U.S. Park Police responded to a report of an incident June 9 at the pool, which damaged foam padding installed as part of a recent multimillion-dollar restoration project.

Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump blamed vandals for a “300-foot gash” and accused someone of putting fertilizer into the water.

The president was pressed. CBS News during an interview, External Trump said he would appear in court to provide the divisive evidence.

In a recent court filing, Lands said a U.S. Park Police report indicated that the damage “included a cut to the foam packaging with a sharp knife or razor blade and destruction of materials.”

He also detailed that “approximately 70 fence post ends were thrown into the pool.”

However, it does not say when the damage occurred and does not identify who may have been involved.

The statement in the court filing is part of a lawsuit filed by the nonprofit to stop the Trump administration from operating the site.

It is also the first public record of how the pool was damaged after the project was completed.
