Real Madrid basketball club announced on Friday evening the official signing of French forward Timothee Lovao Cabaro (31, 1.98m) to a two-year contract after reaching a final agreement with Baskonia on financial compensation, in a blow to Barcelona, who were keen to sign the international player.
Spanish outlet AS revealed that Real Madrid reached a preliminary agreement with the player on July 5, but the deal was dependent on negotiations with Baskonia, who had first priority to sign the forward after his contract expired on June 30, before the matter was finally settled following quick talks between the two clubs.
The Royals managed to steal last season’s top scorer in the Spanish Basketball League (Liga Endesa), a member of the league’s first team, fourth place in the voting for the best player award and one of the top scorers in the Euroleague, as he scored exceptional numbers of 18.1 points per game in the Spanish league and 1 point.
The Frenchman dazzled everyone in the last Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid, where he scored 28 points in just 28 minutes in a historic game, making him the focus of the Royals, who rushed to seal the deal.
