A Northampton man who killed his wife has been charged with murder

The couple’s daughter Athena, who was reached by video-link from the United States, told the court that her father was “zealous, manipulative, narcissistic”.

“How could you do such an evil, selfish, manipulative thing?

“You can’t handle the fact that she has so many people who care about her.

“No years rotting in prison will ever be worth it, because you don’t deserve life.

“You are a sad, unlovable person.

“The day you killed my mother, you killed me too. I feel no longer happy.”

“A father should protect his daughter from pain instead you have caused the worst pain in my life.

“I won’t let you beat me. I’ll stick up for her, mom, and I’ll continue to make her proud.”

Magistrates said Thompson knew his wife had started a new relationship and was planning to leave, and demanded £65,000 in a divorce settlement.

Prosecutor Miranda Moore Casey told jurors that early in the morning, Kimberly’s Facebook and Snapchat posts, saying she “had too much to drink” caused suspicion among her friends and family, because there were spelling mistakes and it wasn’t written the way she wrote it.

Shant Thompson said he “made a concerted attempt to cover up” what he had done and “set out to create a false scene to fool the police.”

“You were trying to get away with murder.

“The evidence makes it clear that you performed CPR and expressed your distress over the phone to emergency services.

“They also took her away from her family, friends and colleagues – a brilliant, likable and loved woman.

“She adores her children and loves the fact that she is about to start a new life.

“You lost her, you lost your children’s mother, you lost other sisters and friends.”

Det Insp Tory Harrison Kimberley, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, has experienced two decades of domestic abuse.

She paid tribute to her friends and family “for their grace during our investigation and especially over the last six weeks.”

“The level of abuse that Kim suffered was appalling, and I want to take this opportunity to say that help is available to anyone going through a similar life.”
