Another shock hits America’s World Cup
The France-Iraq match in the second round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage witnessed exceptional events after bad weather conditions caused the second half of the match at the Philadelphia Stadium to be postponed.
Heavy rain and strong winds began to affect the atmosphere of the match in the final minutes of the first half, before the organizing authorities issued urgent warnings due to a severe thunderstorm approaching the area around the stadium.
Right at the end of the first half, the organizing committee announced that the half-time would be extended to 30 minutes instead of 15 minutes due to the difficult weather conditions hitting the region.
The authorities have asked all fans to leave the stands and go to safe areas in and around the stadium, following the safety procedures adopted in such cases.

Official announcements inside the stadium confirmed that the restart of play will remain suspended until the threat of thunderstorms has passed, while weather conditions are continuously monitored.
Fans are awaiting a decision from the organizers on a date for the players to return to the field and finish the second half in one of the most dramatic climatic events the 2026 World Cup has witnessed so far.
It wasn’t the first time weather conditions disrupted games in the United States, as the last Club World Cup saw several delays and interruptions due to thunderstorms and weather warnings, forcing organizers to implement the same protocols to keep players and fans safe.
Fans are awaiting a decision from the organizers on the date for the second half to resume, given the continuing fluctuations in the weather around the stadium in Philadelphia.
The 2026 World Cup has witnessed growing criticism since its inception due to a number of organizational problems faced by fans and teams, notably visa procedures and difficulty in travel between host countries, in addition to the harsh climatic conditions in some American cities.
