A new Airbus jet has completed the longest flight between Australia and France lasting more than 24 hours – paving the way for long-haul non-stop flights around the world starting next year.
The Airbus A350-1000ULR was designed for Qantas Airways scheduled non-stop flights between Sydney and New York or London. Australian Airlines has ordered a dozen of its new aircraft Project Sunrise The plan is to start offering tickets for sale in 2027.
The plane has been doing it basic test flights near the Airbus facility in Toulouse, France, with a small group of test pilots and test engineers before flying its first long-distance test flight last week. After taking off from Toulouse on July 23, it flew for 19 hours and 13 minutes before landing in Melbourne, Australia, on July 24.
