A ‘miracle’ saved the church of Melling, a hidden hoard of gold coins

She said the £30,000 was “an answer to their prayers” as it could be a “seed” for aid and other fundraising efforts.

She believes the gold coins may have been hidden four years ago by a mysterious benefactor.

Lee said other churches in the area received similar mystical gifts in 2022, but St. Wilfrid’s Church did not receive it until Friday, April 3.

She said: “It’s important to me because now we have a lot of community support for the church, but four years ago we were spending it on the day-to-day running of it.

“Well now there’s a race to fix all the repairs that need to be done.”

“It’s wonderful news,” she added.
