Argentinian mockery of the fall of the three lions
Argentina’s players have sparked controversy after video emerged from inside the dressing room following their 2-1 win over England in the 2026 World Cup semi-finals, a victory that put Tango through to the final to face Spain.
The clip showed a highly festive atmosphere in the dressing room, with the players dancing and singing with great enthusiasm to celebrate qualification, before the atmosphere suddenly changed when everyone stopped dancing and stood in silence for a few seconds.
According to the video, one of the players asked for silence, then the players chanted in unison “A minute’s silence for the souls of Englishmen who died in football today” before the room again erupted in laughter and dancing in loud celebrations.
This behavior caused widespread outrage in the English media, who considered the incident to have gone beyond the usual celebration after a big game, especially after the Three Lions’ dramatic semi-final defeat.

On the other hand, a large number of Argentine fans defended the celebration, believing that it reflected the nature of the historic rivalry between the two teams and that such actions were part of a Latin football culture based on enthusiasm and mutual provocations during big confrontations.
The football clash between Argentina and England has a long history of tense matches, prompting the video to go viral on social media, becoming one of the most shared scenes since the semi-final.
Away from controversy, Argentina have begun preparations for their upcoming clash against Spain in the 2026 World Cup finals, as Lionel Messi and his teammates look to retain the world title and Matador look to lift the trophy and write a new chapter in their footballing history.
