A man was injured by a South Shields dockside crane

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service also attended the scene.

A NAS spokesman said: “At 13.02 we were called to an incident in Port of Tyne, South Shields where a person had been injured.

“We have three double-team ambulances, two clinical team leaders, a duty officer, three vehicles from the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and are supported by the Great North Air Ambulance Service.”

They said a HART vehicle remained at the scene “on standby to support the fire service”.

After the incident, Mike from Urbex Drone View said he went to the dock to film it and “came across the wreckage on the dockside crane, which highlights the intensity of the incident.”

“Behind the line of emergency vehicles, I could see that several cargo containers on BG orange had been moved from their original positions,” he said.

He said he felt the “extent of the damage” showed it was a “serious incident”.
